Traditional Okobo Sandals Worn by apprentice geishas, They're expensive about $300 and higher. |
Step one- I bought 1" thick hard styrofoam and cut it out with the pattern that i got from A cool website that shows you step by step on how to construct your own....out of wood that is.
Step two- I glued the pieces together with regular craft glue, but im sure using special styrofoam adhesive would work better but regular glue works just the same
Step three- I covered the entire sandal with Rigid Wrap plaster cloth to harden the body and give it a smooth texture that makes it easy to work with
Step Four- I covered and molded the entire sandal with instant paper mache. You can see how the front of the sandal is smooth compared to the picture above. I also added holes on the top and the side for shoe laces
This is what it looks like when its all dry and partially sanded.
I'm still in the process of finishing them so the finished project is coming soon!
I just need to sand them down some more, paint them, add the non slip sole, and i'll be done!
